Yesterday, I participated in one of Etsy's new category showcases for the first time. I got into the Holidays showcase for $7 for 24 hours, and set it up to feature my felt Christmas ornaments. I've had really good luck with the main showcase, so I was optimistic about this venture.
Neh. Didn't work.
I showed a white ornament for most of the day. It got two clicks. At 3:00 p.m., I switched to a red ornament. Through midnight, it got 6 clicks. No sales. I would have gotten more exposure by just renewing the listings for those two items. And I would have spent only 40 cents to do it.
Lesson learned.
As the category showcases become better known, they may produce better results. So I may try again some months from now. But not soon. That experiment cost me the proceeds from one ornament plus some. Ouch.

Your felt ornaments are very beautiful! I saw a Martha Stewart crafts show recently which showed how to make felt ... very interesting process ...
You amaze me with everything you do!

Thanks so much, Kimberly. We made felt (hats) one time at a workshop at Stacie's. The wet process was very physical and tiring. But the needle-felting was right down my alley. So much fun. If you decide you want to try it, there's a member of the Arkansas Etsy street team that handpaints gorgeous wool roving.

I've quit trying for showcases for that reason. Sales can come from promoting elsewhere and yeah - $7-$15 sure is a lot of new listings or renewed listings that might pay off better in the end.
