I rose this morning and logged on to find that the first set of double mini-quilts I listed on Etsy has sold! (The aqua set with the Nicki Lee lace.) Yea! What a great start to the day.
Codie and Corey are coming here for supper, so I puttered around the kitchen making brownies and cheesy-turkey-noodle casserole. We'll also have green salad with oranges and pineapple and cheesy-garlic biscuits. It was a real challenge to come up with a meal that my picky girl would enjoy, but I think I've pulled it off.
While I was cooking, I got a call from Polly and Claire who made me belly-laugh with their turkey impersonations. How joyful it made me to spend a few minutes of this holiday with Polly.
Then I straightened the house a bit and got myself cleaned up and ready for the big Thanksgiving dinner at Mom's house this afternoon. I had planned supper with Codie and Corey because Codie was scheduled to work. Then she ended up with the day off, so they are headed to Corey's grandmother's for an early lunch, to Mom and Joe's for a late lunch, and to my house for supper. A full day for them! Anyway, Codie and Mom have been out of touch since Codie moved in with my sister last year. When Codie called yesterday and asked if she and Corey could join me at Mom's, it gave me a stab of joy. I called Mom to let her know and see if I could bring food to make up for the extra people, and the news made her so happy, she burst into tears. Not an ordinary response from my mother. This little reunion is making us both so happy.
So while I have a few quiet minutes before the serial banqueting begins, I must express how grateful I am. I'm a very lucky woman. I'm thankful for dear, precious friends who make my life so rich. I'm thankful for my family - those I can share this holiday with, those departed, and those who are estranged but still intensely valued - my daughter Rachel and my sister Tanya. I'm thankful for a life of plenty - not just of the necessities but of comfort, not just of the privilege of work but of meaningful vocation, not just of affection and support but of love.
Special salutes to the Art YaYas, the AREtsies, and the Sunday Covenant group. I am so fortunate to have all of you in my life.
Happy Thanksgiving!
