Busy, busy procrastination

I'm so lucky. Tomorrow is a holiday at my workplace, and I still had a couple of vacation days left for the year. So I took today off and created a four-day crafting weekend for myself. It has been glorious.

You may have noticed that I had started several dozen projects and finished none lately. My goal for this long weekend was to finish as much as possible and, in particular, get stuff ready to show to the shops next week.

So I

  • painted frames--lots of frames
  • finished three collages that have been in the works
  • finished the quilted Christmas ornaments
  • finished the acrylic angel Christmas ornaments
  • finished several mini-quilts and prepared them for mounting
  • finished most of the Polly series of collages
I'm feeling really productive. I even got a couple of mini-quilts finished and photographed and got one of them posted on Etsy. But I kept looking at them on my bookshelf and thinking...they're just not done. They're dull somehow. I think I'm going to do some stamping on the frames and then reshoot them. Anyway, here's how they look so far. The quilts did some funny kind of squidgy things when I washed and dried them. I love the distortion caused by the shrinkage. I hope buyers feel the same way.

I slept in this morning, put some time in on my CraftGossip blog, and now I'm heading to the studio to turn Christmas ornaments into greeting cards. I still have stuff in stages (drying paint and/or drying glue) all over my kitchen, dining room, and bedroom. I'm hoping to get all that under control today, too.

So how am I procrastinating? I need to review a video for my blog. The publisher sent it to me free, and it rocks, and I need to get the word out. But it's going to take some thought, so I'm putting it off. I also need to edit a half-dozen resumes for a proposal before I get back to work on Wednesday. (No good deed goes unpunished.) I'll do those things tomorrow. Today, I get one more day to wallow in craftiness.

Whoa! You're going to have to slow down so we lazy people can catch up. You've been WAY busy!

Dang, girl... your procrastination is waaaaay more productive than mine. Though usually my procrastination involves the comfy spot on the couch, a class of Coke, and some really bad reality crime shows. And those mini-quilts dull? BAH!!!! You silly woman, there's exquisite!!!!

Wow! I'm so impressed! You are in no way procrastinating. I love the mini-quilts. I like the squidgy thing they did too. And I love the frames.

Your "procrastination" could merely be "marination" - your task may take some mental preparation, and that's happening under the surface while you're being productive in other ways...could that be true?

Not all procrastination (or productivity, for that matter) is created equal.

It can sometimes be good to procrastinate - it can lead to less struggle, delay (counter-intuitive, but true), and more optimal functioning.

There's a new book out titled Productive Procrastination, and it describes how to do it, how to tell productive from destructive procrastination, and how to end the destruction kind. (Yes, it's available on Amazon.com.) Learn more about the concept of Procrastivity at www.Procrastivity.com. Wishing you optimal procrastivity!
