Progress and something new

I'm working on the backgrounds for the Polly collage, bit by bit. I've embroidered the nine pieces, washed and ironed them, and fused them to quilt batting. Now I'm quilting the prints with metallic gold thread. These two pieces show how that's going. I'm not satisfied. I'm going to have to work some beads and sequins in there somewhere. Maybe everywhere!

The new thing is this freakin awesome phone.

As a birthday gift for Codie, I agreed to get her out of her expensive cell phone contract and set her up on a plan she can better afford. We both had AT&T phones, so Sunday we went over to what we thought was an AT&T store to see what we could do. Little did we know...the storefront over on Chenal Parkway is actually the mouth of hell. After an agonizing two hours standing at the desk (not including the time we spent waiting for our turn), we found that it simply was not possible to do what we wanted to do. I don't have the words or the gumption to write all that we went through, and nobody should have to read that, anyway. Let me just say: Think of the most ridiculous, insane adventure you ever had trying to register for college classes. Now multiply that by five.

So yesterday, Codie and I met at the Cricket store. We both got fab new phones. We got unlimited everything - minutes, long distance, text, video, Internet - for substantially less than we had been paying for limited service. And we have no contracts. So, if it turns out that we don't like Cricket, we're out only the cost of the phones. No termination fees. No penalties. No surcharges. No transfer fees. And we never again have to walk into the mouth of hell. I'm so happy.

Jonathan and Heather laughed out loud when they saw my new, snazzy, lime-green metallic slider phone. I've never sent a text message in my life. In fact, I had trouble just answering my old phone without dropping it or accidentally putting the caller on hold or something. But I'm ready for the new millennium, baby. Okay, I'm nearly 9 years late, but I'm getting there. My phone rocks.

Okay, I have no idea why you're not satisfied with the embroidered gold thread quilted fabric pieces. They're fah-bulous!!!

Okay, you're scaring me. You are way high tech now with that new fandangled phone. Do you get a referral commission if you get us to switch to Cricket???

Eeep, can't wait to see how your project turns out - I think it looks fabulous, but I may be a bit biased because I'm kinda obsessed with Heather Bailey fabrics!

Oh, and let me assure you, Verizon isn't much better than at&t - I wish we had a Cricket around here!

Love your project so far!!! And I'm far from hi tech. I can't even figure out how to take a picture on my camera phone. And sending a text message... I'm completely lost!!!

Your words on my last blog post meant sooooo much to me, Denise!! Thanks for always coming by and having wonderful things to say! I was very shaken up, as you would probably tell, and it meant a lot to me to see your comment!!

I am personally disgusted that AT&T doesn't offer any renewal benefits. I mean, seriously?? I have Cingular and AT&T for a decade, and when I go to upgrade and add a line and all that crap I have to accept their "new service" deal of having a month of internet service?? BUT I DON'T WANT IT!!!

I'll have to check out Cricket.

Beautiful quilting! Colors are awesome with the gold threads.
Speaking of phones, I can't wait till my contract lets me get a new one. Erin has gotten the better phone the last couple of times and I end up with the trusty cheap Nokia base model. This time it's my turn! (maniacal laughter)

Your phone is pretty snazzy. I'm waiting for my contract with AT&T to end in December until I can get a new phone.
