More craft joy

I bought something else. I couldn't help it.

Last Saturday, I was over at Stacie's house for a charity project. We made ceramic platters, with Centers for Youth and Families benefiting. Everybody wins. CYF gets some additional funding, we get a lovely day together crafting, and we don't even have to feel guilty about spending a few bucks to participate.

All of the designs rocked - there were several real, live designers in the group - and all were so different! I can't wait to see how they turned out after they were fired. I slopped on a thin coat of green, stuck down a Heidi Swapp mask, and hit it with several coats of purple. The mask didn't stick very well to the green glaze, though. When I pulled it off, I found that glaze had seeped under the edges in spots.

I turned to Stacie and said the silliest thing. In my mind, I was picturing an orange stick or some other manicure implement. So I said, "Do you have something I could use to scrape some of this glaze off with?" She disappeared into her studio and re-emerged with a complete set of antique dental tools. Oh. My. Gawd. And they were just as fun as they looked. Beautifully balanced. Sharp. Tips in every shape you can imagine. I was in heaven.

So the next day, I was out on eBay shopping for my own set. Here's what I got. They aren't super-cool antique real dental tools like Stacie's. But they'll do. I want to go home and scrape something.

The masochistic 'material at hand' meets the sadistic crafter. Just kidding! When I saw the wonderful Dentist's tool set I immediately thought of Orin (Steve Martin) in Little Shop of Horrors.

I'm just thinking of the WONDERFUL Halloween costumes you could use these with.
